It is known that burning stone existed over 450 million years ago. Burning stone is found just beneath the earth's surface and in some places almost on the ground. On the southern hemisphere burning stone is found about 2,5 meters deeper per every kilometre in the ground than on the northern hemisphere.

The tunnels in our mine (now museum) are from 8 meters to at least 35 meters deep. The burning stone which exists higher can be dug from above ground.

The deepest depth where burning stone has been dug is 70 meters. The digging of burning stone and using its advantages in energy production began in 1916. The main user groups have been electricity production plants.

The amount of electricity, which is got from burning stone, is about 96-98% in our energy production. 1,5 kg of burning stone is needed for one kWh.
